The "Industrial and Commercial Bank of China" in the "United States of America", which is called ICBC Bank of China for short, was subjected to a strong cyber attack that disrupted Treasury bond trading.
"ICBC Bank" is the largest lender in the world in terms of assets, and on Thursday, November 9, it announced that its financial services arm had been subjected to a ransomware attack that led to the disruption of specific systems.
The bank stressed that as soon as it discovered the breach, it moved to isolate the affected systems to contain the incident. A ransom attack is one of the types of cyber attacks that includes attacks that control systems or information and do not allow their release unless the victim pays the ransom.
ICBC Bank has not yet revealed who caused the attack, but it indicated that it is conducting a comprehensive investigation and is cooperating with law enforcement authorities. At the same time, the bank reported that the business and email systems of its "financial services" unit in America operate independently of its operations in China.
